2004-05-31 - 7:10 p.m. Hi, I wanted to thank everyone for coming out to Billy Ray's Dive saturday night, it was a great evening. The Vulturines, in a rare full band at BRD, played an nice tight set, sort of jazzy math rock. Then S. Brooks played his usual great set. He did a cover (which I cant think of) which was really beautiful. He played some songs from the vault and basically laid it down. Then Anne of Per Se fame played. There was a minor technical problem with her vocal mic, but Steve cleared it up and she sang as angelic as ever. Im not sure its possible for her to have a bad show. It may not be her best performance (her words) but she is still a 100 times better than I'll ever be. She simply has a voice that is heartbreakingly beautiful. Then I played. Let's see...You get three drink tickets, and when you order the woman gives you a 22oz PBR. So, by the time I hit the stage I had at least 50+ ounces of Portland's favourite cheap beer flowing, which means I had a good show. Actually, I had a lot of fun performing at this one. I haven't really played solo in a long while and it felt good. I can go off the main path a lot more and no one is waiting for a cue or wondering why I've changed things, etc. I just felt really free and relaxed. Having my friends on hand always helps. I'm trying to piece together the set list, which included a request (woohoo). Your Name//Thief//Unquiet Lies//Meow Meow//Giddy//Some Things last A Long Time//Funny But True//Tony//714//Tell It All To The Lord//Chains Two covers hidden in there, Some things... by Daniel Johnson & Funny... by Portland's own Cloister Maximus (I hope I didnt ruin your beautiful song Steve). The requested song was from Calvert for Tell It All... Hopefully I'll set up some more acoustic shows in the near future, but for now, watch to your left for The Mouse That Roared. Next stop: Nocturnal June 24th. Thanks again, especially To Anne for setting up the night, Jack
