2003-10-22 - 5:47 p.m. Hiya again- The first stop on the All Girl Summer Fun Band tour was Boise, ID. We stayed w/my good friend Susie, who I knew from San Francisco days. She just bought a house and had plenty of room for the four of us...it was great to catch up w/her. The next day, we drove to Salt Lake City, UT, for our first show! I was really nervous and my fingers were numb from the cold. I was using Jen's bass guitar 'cause it's smaller and lighter, making it easier on my back. But I wasn't used to playing it yet (the neck on my bass is longer) and the notes weren't where I expected them to be! It was a challenge trying to get the right notes w/nerve-sweaty fingers, not to mention it was the first time for me to play these songs w/these peops live...It was a cool space and I met lots of good people, mostly kids (it was one of our many all-ages shows, which was cool too). It's inspiring to me to see the youngins playing music so early, even getting a space and setting up shows for themselves and their peers. (Some of these spaces were the only all-ages venue in that particular town). Our next stop was Denver, CO...I called John before the show, to say hi, hear his voice and tell him how things were going...This was the only show where I ended up in the middle of the stage and felt a little self-conscious about it (Kim, Jen and Kathy all play instruments and sing so it was weird being center stage and just playing bass). I tried to relax and smile, laugh a little if I goofed...after the show, some guy came up and asked me if I enjoyed playing 'cause I looked so tense-AAARRGHH!!! That was frustrating and I wondered how long before I'd get comfortable...I mean, even if I felt mentally comfortable, my body wasn't reacting that way. But the third show, in Omaha, NB ended up being the show I finally relaxed, just played and had a great fucking time-this was also the first show I played drums (although I've messed around on drums, I didn't know HOW to play drums until I learned these two songs...I guess I still don't know how to play drums but now I'm hooked! John and I went looking @ drum stuff this past weekend, I can't wait to learn more)! The Omaha folks liked us enough to ask for autographs-me giving out an autograph cracks me up...I mean, I was filling in for somebody else! But it did feel good, to get some kind of recognition and enthusiasm...casey Amusing Signs Seen on Tour: Inedible (on a tanker truck) Al's Fun-in-the-Bun Hot Dogs Tunes 4 Christ
