2003-09-18 - 12:12 p.m. Things are on a small bit of hiatus with the Tuftees, as Casey tours with All Girl Summer Fun Band (K Records krecs.com) for the next 2 weeks & Jason is completing his clicks & beeps solo project. So what is Jack to do? Well, quite honestly, I have been missing Casey quite a bit. I haven't felt as insired by my free time as I thought I would. So, I'm going to visit my brother Eric (Stone Figures, REK) in San Francisco. We are going to resurrect an old side project we used to do called YEN. Why do we call it YEN? 2 reasons: 1. it's all money baby!; b. a billion chinese can't be wrong! Actually, it just sounds cool. I am really looking forward to getting down and dirty and recording in his home studio (my old home studio) and letting him work the controls. I feel really positiive that we will come up with some really interesting music. Hopefully a bit experimental, loud & soft. Who knows. The best way for the two of us to approach making music is to walk in without any ideas. Just let the first note played lead into the next. I can't wait to spend the time with him. Hopefully Rich will be around (it's his anniversary with his lovely leading lady Lo) and he & I can do some stuff too for our side project, Awun. All in all it should be a great long weekend. This next bit is from Alex Mackenzie of the Portland Basement Circuit, whom we played for last week. He is too kind with his words, but since I'll take all positive criticism, I thought I'd share it with you. "The Tuftees were so rad! They gave us such a great set, starting off quietly, and turning it up to 11 when the party volume got a bit too loud. I've been wracking my brain trying to figure out how to describe them, and this is the best I could come up with: their sound lies somewhere between Yo La Tengo's quiet stuff and Neil Young's rock records." ((((((((((((((((*))))))))))))) Check out Casey playing bass with All Girl Summer Fun Band. We should get some pix soon too!
